Bonfires of San Juan

Things to Do
Events & Festivals
Open Time

Every June 23rd, Bonfires of San Juan in Torrevieja lights up the Costa Blanca with magic, fire, and sea rituals. On the eve of the feast, locals and visitors gather at beaches like La Mata, Playa del Cura, Los Locos, and Los Náufragos to celebrate with bonfires built directly on the sand.

As night deepens, participants symbolically leap over the flames to purge bad energy, then dip their feet in the Mediterranean waves to welcome renewal.  At exactly midnight, a spectacular fireworks show launched from Juan Aparicio promenade illuminates the sky, visible from all beaches in Torrevieja.

The city hall supports the tradition by distributing thousands of kilos of pine wood and coordinating safety and logistics. San Juan in Torrevieja is more than a beach party — it’s a deeply rooted celebration of light, purification, and community under the summer solstice.
